Clearing a Criminal Record in Israel

We are considered a democracy, but please note: Israel is a very “fragile democracy”.

Having a clear criminal record could make a difference about your chances for a “successful future”. Protect your future as soon as possible.

The younger you are the stronger is the influence of a criminal record. Depending on your profession, e.g., lawyers, doctors, civil servants, etc, the more hurt you can be from a criminal record.

Youthful mistakes happen and there are laws in place that may allow you to put your past behind you.

Under special circumstances, the law provides for opportunities to clear your past record; you have the right to have a fresh start from a criminal conviction record.

If you have made a mistake in the past, you may be eligible to have your criminal record cleared or "expunged" of most convictions after only seven or ten years. It is not an automatic procedure; you must apply for it through a special department within the police headquarters in Jerusalem. You will need a lawyer for this. I can help.
